Howdy hey dear children,
My name is MOORbert. I live in a cool, wet moor in the Ore Mountains. I’m already over 400 years old; but many of my peers are much, much older - it is not uncommon for some to be 2000 years old.
You might be wondering why my hair is light and dark green, red, brown, and even yellow in some places. That’s moss - peat moss to be exact, that only grows where there is plenty of water that is acidic like lemon juice.
My dress is also made of peat moss. It is dark brown - if you look closer, you will see a bunch of little moss stems in there. And guess what? My dress is always getting longer - it grows as I do and we are constantly getting taller. It also has a very special name - its name is peat.
I have a lot of stories to tell you about myself and my home. Would you like to know...
...how my hair makes the water acidic like lemon juice?
...why there are plants in the moor that capture mosquitoes and flies?
...why I need water to grow and
...which animals are especially happy living in the moor?
Then visit me in the moor sometime. If you tell me you’re coming, I would be glad to give you a tour of my kingdom!
